How to Play Just Like Mama Used To Say

Hey I’m Matt with It’s a Southern Thing
and today I’m gonna teach y’all how to play our brand new card game Just Like Mama Used To Say! It’s pretty easy to learn and I’m going to show you how to do it
right now! To win, all you gotta do is channel your inner southerner mama to
create the most southern and hilarious phrase! First thing you’re gonna want to
do is open the boxes up and then take a gander at all them cards because there’s
a lot of them, 540 to be exact. Then you’re gonna want to dump them all out
separate them into yellow, blue, and red stacks. If you see a green, stop! You’re
color blind! Get someone else to do this. Then shuffle them. Next you’ll deal six red
and six blue cards to each player but don’t tell anyone!
Your cards are secret! I said don’t tell anyone! I said they’re a secret! Now check your phones. The last person to call their mama gets to go first and is the storyteller for the round, unless
you’re playing with family, then mama gets to go first because well she’s mama.
Now as it turns out, I’m actually on the phone with my mama so I get to go first.
Uh-huh yeah I’m wearing clean underwear. Okay…I love you too. The storyteller
draws one yellow card and reads out loud for everyone then they place it in the
middle of the table for everyone to see. “This is more terrifying than” now every
player except for the storyteller will finish the phrase by combining one of
their red cards with one of their blue cards. The storyteller will close their
eyes as the other players lay down their combined red and blue cards in front of
the storyteller. After they’ve all been laid down, the storyteller can open their
eyes and then reread the yellow card and then the red and blue cards that were
submitted by each player. “This is more terrifying than the Easter Bunny at
Papa’s garage,” “This is more terrifying than an out-of-control electric scooter
in Atlanta traffic,” “This is more terrifying than a longtail weasel in a
quarantine outhouse.” After the storyteller finishes reading all the
phrases out loud they have the honor of choosing the winner – it could be
something they heard their mama say before, it could be hilarious, or
probably both. It’s up to the storyteller! And I choose the weasel! The player that
submitted the winning phrase gets to keep the yellow card face down in front
of them, ending the round. To begin the next round,
clear the table of the phrases that have just been played and every player except
for the storyteller draws a blue card and a red card to replace the ones that
just played. Then decide who the next storyteller is –
you can go clockwise or counterclockwise or cattywhompus..it’s up to y’all. The
first player to collect five yellow cards wins the game! I don’t think I hung up on my momma. She’s still there! Momma! I won!
