Nuclear Winter (2019) | Day 3 | FNV Christmas Special Mod Review

Christmas time is full of festive tales, and
the Fallout: New Vegas Christmas Special tells an interesting one. The Christmas Special is a grand quest mod,
revolving around the National Wastelanders Christmas Convention, which is coming to New
Vegas this year. The Courier meets a Jolly old man in the Tops
Casino, and embarks on a quest to save Christmas; in more ways than one. Since this is a quest mod, I don’t want to
spoil the story for those who haven’t yet played it, but it’s fair to say that it’s
not your average Christmas tale. Finding a home for Jolly old Nicholas and
his convention is only the beginning, as the quest later involves bank heists, brothels
and Nazis; very fitting of the season. It’s by no means a short endeavour. This Christmas story spans out over fourteen
quests, and takes roughly 6 hours to complete. I must say, the tasks can feel a little bit
mundane to begin with, but it gets much better as the plot unfolds, leading up to a grand
finale which feels satisfying and wholesome. The mod includes a lot of new Christmas inspired
items, such as Christmas jumpers and candy canes, but also some not so Christmassy items,
such as the Wehrmacht rifle. You’ll also find that the whole thing is professionally
voice acted. The Christmas Special definitely shows its
age at points, with the occasional blank dialog screen and the overall presentation, but I
can’t fault it too much, as there weren’t too many bugs to be found. I was surprised by just how much I became
attached to the characters towards the end, and if you want to help bring Christmas to
New Vegas this year, you know who to talk to.
